As the finest planned city in the United States, Irvine is one of the greatest places to look for homes for sale. In Irvine, California, residents can also enjoy plenty of fun activities all year long, and summertime is especially packed with local events. In 2017, summer fun will start on July 4th with the Concert on the Green and Fireworks display at the Irvine High School Stadium on Walnut Avenue. After Independence Day, you can look forward to enjoying the following events.
1. Summer Concerts
On July 9th, the Mike Ward Community Park on Lake Road will kick off its summer concert series with Yard Sale, a musical act that performs dance hits. These family-friendly concerts have become an Irvine tradition over the last few years. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and coolers. You can bring your own snacks as well, but keep in mind some of the most popular gourmet food trucks will be onsite. This concert will benefit the 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee, a nonprofit organization that benefits a local military unit. Pop Vinyl, a musical act that specializes in playing Top 40 hits, will be performing July 16th. On July 30th, the concert series will continue with Color My World, a tribute to the legendary rock band Chicago. On August 6th, Neon Nation will play the hottest hits from the 1980s.
2. Teddy Bear Picnic
A special event dedicated to the children of Irvine will take place at the Pretend City Children’s Museum, located on the corner of Hubble and Irvine Center Drive. The Teddy Bear Picnic is an all-American tradition more than a hundred years old. Children can bring their favorite teddy bears along with snacks, picnic baskets, and blankets to the museum’s garden on July 10th from 11am to 1pm. This event encourages children and their families to make new friends and enjoy a nice summer day in a wholesome manner.
3. Senior Fitness Expo
This free event at the Rancho Senior Center on Ethel Coplen Way focuses on the health and wellbeing of Irvine’s older citizens. Nutrition workshops, health screenings, fitness classes, and product exhibits will be offered on August 25th from 9am until noon.
4. Lemon Grove Market
Starting on June 3rd and running until August 26th, the Woodbury Town Center on Irvine Boulevard is transformed into the Saturday Lemon Grove Market every two weeks. This market is dedicated to the cottage, gourmet, and artisan food scenes, but you can also find handmade gifts, organic bath products, flowers, and much more.
5. Splash-In Movie Day
On August 26th at 6:30pm, the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center on Walnut Avenue will transform into an aquatic movie theater with a special screening of Moana, an animated Disney film about a princess from the Pacific Islands. Children and their families can enjoy the film while floating in the swimming pool. Tickets cost just $2 for children and $4 for each adult companion.
