If you’re buying a home in Irvine, it helps to know a little about the area. Some of the best libraries in Southern California are located in Irvine. Following are five you should visit.
1. Heritage Park Regional Library
This large library is conveniently located on Yale Avenue near the corner of Walnut, not far from the freeway. Heritage Park is a fairly large library with free Wi-Fi that is very busy but it manages to stay quiet in the sections closer to the bookshelves. Of all the libraries in Orange County, this one has one of the most extensive catalogs of Asian books and DVDs. The used bookstore is extremely popular and draws visitors from nearby Santa Ana.
2. Katie Wheeler Library
If you enjoy historic California architecture, this is the place for you. The Katie Wheeler branch library is located on Old Myford Road, close to the corner of Irvine Boulevard and Jamboree Drive. The library building is a restored hacienda with gorgeous landscaping, inviting gardens with benches, picnic tables, and even a gazebo. The selection of children’s books is comprehensive, and the surroundings are very peaceful. This is one of the most unique libraries in the Golden State.
3. University Park
This centrally located library is near the intersection of Culver and Michelson. The study areas have nice views of the green areas surrounding the residential communities near Turtle Rock Irvine real estate. A section of this library is dedicated to Farsi books, CDs and DVDs. This is one of the few libraries Irvine that actually has a couple of desktop PC terminals, but most patrons bring their own laptops.
4. Mariners Library
This library is just outside of Irvine on the way to Newport Beach, but it is worth the drive and offers plenty of parking. There are two main sections: one for children and the other a communal area that is a bit noisy. Mariners Library is close to many restaurants and cafes if you care for a bite to eat after using the library.
5. Langsom Library, UCI
When you need to get serious reading and research done, head over to University of California, Irvine, where you will find Langsom Library. This place gets a bit crowded during midterm and finals season, and Internet access requires an active student ID card. The academic focus is on the social sciences and humanities, but the California fiction catalog is pretty extensive as well.
