Best Outdoor Spaces in Irvine

Our Favorite Green Spaces in Irvine

By , 6:47 pm on

Here in Irvine, we’re lucky enough to experience near-perfect temperatures and weather conditions about 360 days a year, so it only makes sense that we spend as much time enjoying life outdoors as possible. From neighborhood parks with community centers to hiking trails teeming with local wildlife, Irvine has plenty of outdoor spaces to suit everyone’s interests.

Strawberry Farms Golf Club

Whether you’re practicing your putting, going for the full 18-hole course, or simply grabbing lunch at the clubhouse, Strawberry Farms Golf Club is one of the most gorgeous golf courses in Southern California. With sprawling greens and expansive views, it’s a picturesque place to spend a Sunday…or any other day, if you can swing it.

Heritage Park Community Center

Located just off the I-5, Heritage Park Community Center in El Camino Real has everything you could ever want out of a neighborhood park. There are a dozen tennis courts, multiple swimming pools, volleyball, racquetball and basketball courts, soccer fields and baseball diamonds, barbecues and picnic areas, and plenty of green, open space for kids to run and play. There’s even a lake, and if you’re lucky, you’ll find some ducks to feed.

The University of California, Irvine

We’re lucky to have such an esteemed institution of higher education right in our backyard. While UCI is very much a commuter school in many regards, there are plenty of green spaces to enjoy the fresh air or catch up on reading beneath the Southern California sun and reminisce about the college days.

Turtle Rock Nature Center

If you have kids, this is the perfect place to go to spend an afternoon outdoors, while also sneaking in a little educational information. You can explore the woodsy grounds of the Turtle Rock nature preserve on your own, or spend some time in the visitor’s center learning about local animal habitats. Even if you don’t have kids, it’s a great place to explore some local hiking trails and see if you can spot any native wildlife.
