Where to Fish Near Irvine

Southern California isn’t exactly known for its sensational fishing, but, believe it or not, there are a few spots near Irvine where you can drop a line. Here are a few of the top spots, recommended by our Irvine real estate brokers.

Yorba Regional Park Lake

Anaheim’s Yorba Regional Lake consists of four fishing lakes connected by a network of streams sure to delight. The area is open 7am to 6pm during the winter and fall, and 7am to 9pm during the spring and summer. Vehicles pay three dollars per entry on weekdays, and five dollars during the weekend. Frequent visitors can purchase annual passes for eighty dollars. The park also has playgrounds, picnic tables, and barbecues.

Newport Beach Pier

Looking for a much, much larger body of water to tackle? The Newport Beach Pier juts more than 1000 feet into the Newport Bay and offers free public access to all fishermen, no fishing license required. This historical landmark was built in 1888 and reconstructed in 1940, and it is extremely popular among serious anglers. The pier is open 7am to 9pm daily.

Santa Ana River Lakes

Anaheim’s Santa Ana River Lakes provide the exciting opportunity to fish at night–or even overnight! This spot is closed every Thursday for the weekly fish stocking, which you can view online. The lakes are open 6am to 11pm, with overnight excursions also available. The fee for an adult day pass is twenty-five dollars and requires no fishing license.

Miles Square Park Lake

Fountain Valley’s Miles Square Lake lies within the 607-acre urban park full of sports fields, archery ranges, and picnic areas. There are two fishing lakes, with catfish in the summer and rainbow trout during the winter. The park and lakes are open from 7am to 9pm during the summer, and 7am to 630pm during the winter. Fishing licenses are required for any fisherman over the age of sixteen. Vehicles pay three dollars for entry on weekdays and five dollars during the weekend.
