Congratulations, you just closed on your new construction home in Irvine. You have picked out every interior detail and are truly making it your home. Now it is time to extend those choices to the outdoors and landscape your yard. But where do you start?
Make a Plan
Before you can start landscaping, you have to see the big picture. That means you need to come up with a plan for your backyard, and it can be as simple or detailed as you like. However, you need to know where you want patio or decking, lawn, and beds for planting.
The first thing you have to do is tackle irrigation. Install a sprinkler system for the areas you plan on having grass and include drip systems for your flowerbeds, garden areas, future trees, and even for your future potted plants. Although you can always add to your irrigation system, the more you do now, the easier it will be.
Prep Growing Areas
Once your irrigation is ready, take a little time to prep the areas of your landscape that you plan on planting grass, ground cover, flowers, gardens, and trees. Although you have dirt all around, that doesn’t mean that it is ready to grow anything. It needs added nutrients that come from fertilizer.
It takes time and money to reach a point when you can finally say you are finished landscaping. But because not everything can be done immediately, you need to make a list of everything you want to do and prioritize those items. For example, if you want a large garden and lots of flowerbeds, but your finances are limited, just mark out the space for it. Spend your money on sodding the grass area so that your landscaping appears to be complete for less initial cost.
