When it comes to celebrating the mysteries of the afterlife, residents of Southern California are not limited to Halloween. Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican celebration of faith, magic and remembrance. Following are three interesting Day of the Dead events taking place near Irvine homes for sale.
Anaheim Marketplace Dia de Los Muertos
The third annual Day of the Dead celebration at the Marketplace, located at 1440 South Anaheim Boulevard, will take place on November 6. Mariachis, sugar skulls, games for children, dancing, handcrafts, and costumes can be enjoyed by the entire family at this Sunday festival from noon until 4pm. This event will be held at La Placita.
Noche de Altares in Santa Ana
One of the most colorful Day of the Dead celebrations is organized each year by The Centro Cultural de Mexico in Santa Ana. On November 5, the block section between 4th and Birch Streets will be transformed into a festive Mexican town square from noon until 10pm. There will be a religious and social awareness celebration at this event. Families are encouraged to make an altar in honor of the dearly departed or to call attention to an issue that affects the community. Children will be able to enjoy face painting as well as sweet treats from local restaurants, and Mexican musicians will dedicate songs to those who are no longer with us.
Day of the Dead at the Children’s Museum
Located at 29 Hubble Street, Pretend City is one of the happiest spots for children in Irvine. Each year, the Pretend City Children’s Museum offers families an opportunity to celebrate Dia de los Muertos on the day after Halloween. Children are encouraged to bring a picture of a dearly departed relative so that they can learn more about the emotional experiences of remembrance and celebrating life.
